Lamborghini built the first military vehicle, a prototype vehicle codenamed the "Cheetah" in 1977. Lamborghini has designed a vehicle with hopes of selling to the U.S. military. The original Cheetah prototype had a rear-mounted Chrysler V8 engine. Prototype destroyed during testing by the U.S. military. This causes the Lamborghini LM001, which is very similar to the development of the Cheetah, but has a AMC V8 engine.
It was decided that the machine is installed on the back too much handling characteristics that are not profitable in the off-road vehicles, and LMA002 built with an entirely new chassis, moving the engine (now the V12 Lamborghini Countach from the) forward. After much testing and modifying the prototype, serial number and eventually became the first LM002. Production model was unveiled in early 1986 Brussels Auto Show.
